On this short but intense and unforgettable tour you will discover the beauty of one of the most fascinating Medinas in the world followed by a route towards the majestic Atlas Mountains, passing through important towns and cities as well as valleys and cedar forests until reaching the edge of the Sahara dunes to enter a night in the desert that you will never forget.
TRAVEL ITINERARY
Day 1: From Fez to the Merzouga desert
The departure of the 3 days Fes desert tour will be after breakfast at your Riad/Hotel. The trip from Fes to Erg Chebbi sand dunes will last around 8 hours in which we will see the Atlas Mountains and some villages (Timhdit, Zaida and ER-rich). We will make stops in some cities such as Ifrane; the European city and Azrou to enjoy the view of the cedar forests and feed the monkeys that live there. Lunch will be served in Midelt. Then we will continue through the Ziz valley which has beautiful views of the palm trees. When we reach the edge of the sand dunes where the camels will be waiting for you to ride to the Berber camp; where you will spend the night. First night in the desert in a Berber camp, including dinner and breakfast.
Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake up early to see the spectacular sunrise, where the color of the dunes and the play of shadows are a breathtaking spectacle. After breakfast, you can return by camel or 4x4 vehicle to the edge of the sand dunes, where you will meet your driver. We will drive 40 km to Rissani, the traditional town that was the origin of the ruling family in Morocco and the meeting place for the caravans trading to Timbuktu in Mali. We will take a tour of the traditional market. Afterwards we will drive to Erfoud, famous for its fossilized marbles, where you will visit the workshop and the marble fossil museum. Later, we will drive west passing by an ancient irrigation system, we may make a short stop to get an idea about the uses. Lunch will be served at one of the local restaurants along the way. After lunch, we will continue to the Todra Gorges, which are currently one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in Morocco. You can walk between its huge rock walls, you can even discover some rustic Berber villages where you can enjoy a cup of tea with the nomads of this region. Then we continue towards the Dades Valley, which is 1 hour drive from the gorge. Accommodation in a traditional hotel/riad, with bed, dinner and breakfast.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast at the hotel, we will start our 3-day tour of the Fes desert through the valley of the Roses and the route of the thousand kasbahs. Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, we will make a short stop to take some pictures of the Taourirt kasbah. Then we will drive 30 minutes to reach one of the oldest Berber villages and a UNESCO world heritage site, the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, where many international films were shot (Game of Thrones, Gladiator...). Then we will continue through the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2260 m) over the High Atlas Mountains with numerous stops for bird watching and also to rest until we reach the red city of Marrakech.
End of the tour.
