3-day tour: From Marrakech to the desert.
On this short but intense tour you will get to know the magical and colorful hustle and bustle of Marrakesh in 3 days before starting your unforgettable route towards the Sahara Desert, passing through some of the towns best known cinematically for their dazzling landscape and where you will discover the beauty of a deep and ancient culture.
TRAVEL ITINERARY
Day 1: Marrakech – Kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorges
Our 3 days Marrakech Merzouga desert tour will start from your riad/hotel in Marrakech to Dades Gorges which will take about 8 hours drive with stops and visits along the way. We will drive through the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m) in the high Atlas Mountains where you will have the opportunity to take some perfect pictures of the landscape. We will visit the kasbahs of Ksar Ait Ben Haddou which is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. It is also the best place for famous film directors, where many international films were filmed such as (Game of Thrones, Gladiator...). Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant in the Kasbah, then we will drive to Ouarzazate with the option to visit the Atlas Studios and the Kasbah of Taourirt. We will continue to the natural landscapes of the “Valley of Roses” famous for its rose water and its artisanal distillation factories.
Upon arrival in Boumalne Dades, we will follow the Dades River along a small road passing by different fortified kasbahs located on the side of the road leading to the Dades Gorges. We will spend the night in an authentic hotel/riad with accommodation, dinner and breakfast.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Rissani – Camel ride in Merzouga
After breakfast at your hotel in the Dades Valley, our journey today will begin with a drive to the oasis of Tinghir, where we will detour along a secondary road that runs along the Todra Valley until we reach the Todra Gorges, which are currently one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in Morocco. You will be able to walk among its huge rock walls and even discover some rustic Berber villages where you can enjoy a cup of tea with the nomads of this region. We will continue to Rissani, famous for its date market and for being a starting point for the ancient trade caravans that crossed the Sahara Desert to Timbuktu. Lunch will be served here in Rissani, where we will try Berber pizza cooked in the traditional oven. Afterwards, we will continue to Merzouga driving through a rocky desert landscape. Meet our camel caravan and ride them through the amazing sand dunes that change color with the sunset on the horizon as a backdrop. We will arrive at our camp in the Sahara Desert before nightfall.
After some time to admire the sand dunes and surrounding landscapes, settle in for a Moroccan dinner served under the stars by the campfire. Late in the evening, your local nomadic hosts will entertain you with their drums and sing local songs. We will spend the night in a Berber camp including bed, dinner and breakfast.
Day 3: Merzouga – Marrakech
Wake up early to see the spectacular sunrise, where the color of the dunes and the play of shadows are a breathtaking sight. After breakfast, get ready to return by camels or jeeps to the edge of the sand dunes where the driver will be waiting for you. Then we will leave the Sahara and return to Marrakech passing through the Draa Valley, Agdez, Ouarzazat and some kasbahs. Finally we will arrive in Marrakech and drop you off at your hotel or riad. End of the tour.
